Former Oregon and current Utah receiver Darren Carrington pleaded no contest Monday to a misdemeanor charge of driving under the influence of intoxicants in Eugene Municipal Court.
Carrington has entered a one-year diversion program that, if successfully completed, will result in the dismissal of the original charge, a court official said Tuesday morning by phone. He also was imposed a fine of $490.
Carrington's court appearance was one of two important developments for the receiver Monday: The same day, the Pac-12 Faculty Athletic Representatives' Committee waived the intra-conference transfer penalty that would have forced Carrington to sit out the year, making him officially eligible to play for the Utes in 2017.
