Eric Jenkins stepped down, David Ribich stepped up and Nick Symmonds was still in the game Sunday in the Portland Track Festival at Lewis & Clark College.
Jenkins, the former University of Oregon star who just missed making the 2016 U.S Olympic Team in the 5,000 meters, won the meet's top second of the 1,500 by holding off current UO runner Sam Prakel on the home straight.
Jenkins finished in 3 minutes, 37.55 seconds before an appreciative crowd of an estimated 1,200. Prakel was second in 3:37.79, just ahead of two-time Olympian Lopez Lomong, third in 3:38.
