Marcus Mariota and the Oregon football team were among the honorees Thursday night at the 63rd annual Oregon Sports Awards, held at Nike headquarters in Beaverton.
Mariota and UO softball pitcher Cheridan Hawkins received the Bill Hayward Award as the state's top amateur athletes for the calendar year 2014. In addition, Mariota was recognized with the "Play It Forward" Award for being "an athlete who is an inspirational role model in the community."
Mariota won the 2014 Heisman Trophy and led the UO football team to the first College Football Playoff National Championship game.
