TEMPE, Ariz. – The 6th-ranked Oregon softball team kicked off the 2016 season with a victory, beating Cal Poly, 12-3, Friday afternoon at the Kajikawa Classic.
HOW IT HAPPENED: Alyssa Gillespie led Oregon (1-0) off with a double to left field. However, the Mustangs (0-1) were able to recover and keep the Ducks from scoring in the first. Cal Poly’s Stephanie Heyward was struck by a pitch, but from there Cheridan Hawkins struck one out and then a Mustang player grounded out to end the inning.
The scoreless game didn’t last long as Gwen Svekis recorded the first UO homerun of 2016.
