Ducks Drop Regional Opener

Springfield, Mo. – No. 2 Iowa took advantage of some miscues by No. 3 Oregon and won game one of the Springfield Regional 3-1 on Friday at Hammons Field.

How It Happened: Iowa jumped out to an early lead with a run in the second inning. Oregon starter Cole Irvin struggled with his command hitting a batter and walking two before Nick Day drove in a run with a weak ground ball single to give the Hawkeyes a 1-0 lead.

Oregon tied it in the top of the third when Austin Grebeck drove in Mark Karaviotis with a RBI single, but Iowa answered with a run in the bottom half of the inning on a ground ball out after the runners moved to second and third on an Irvin wild pitch.
