Less than 90 seconds remained in Sunday’s matinee at Matthew Knight Arena, and Oregon’s season hung in the balance – quite literally.
Southern California, which trailed by 15 late in the third quarter, had capped a 9-2 run with a layin to get within 60-58. On the line was the 20th win of the season for the UO women, not to mention their NCAA Tournament dreams, which probably couldn’t afford the hit of a loss at home to the Women of Troy.
Clinging to a two-point lead, the Ducks went to their star, Jillian Alleyne, who earlier had recorded her 92nd career double-double.
