Based on Penn State’s offensive strategy throughout the season up to this point, most would have thought a 1-score Oregon victory would indicate a low scoring game in which the Nittany Lions milked the clock. Instead, Penn State’s staff did just what hythloday had feared and decided to abandon the low-posession approach they had used in the regular season and instead use tempo to score as many points as they could. The new plan nearly succeeded as neither team was able to consistently halt the opposing offense. Typically such games decisively favor the team that wins the turnover margin.
