The official narrative being pushed by the University of Oregon is that Hayward Field's east grandstand is in such bad shape it makes sense to scrap it and start over.

Lead paint, not seismically sound, mushy beams, leaky roof, decaying siding, cracking seats, uneven steps, inadequate concessions and restrooms. It doesn't sound good.
But like most things in life, perspective matters.
