Eugene, Ore. – The Arizona Diamondbacks selected Oregon pitcher Ryne Nelson in the second round of the 2019 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft on Monday night.
Nelson was the 56th overall pick, the third highest selection in the modern era of Oregon baseball. First round picks Tyler Anderson (2011) and David Peterson (2017) are the only two former Ducks selected higher than Nelson.
Nelson is the sixth Duck player drafted by the Diamondbacks. He joins Matt Mercer (5th round, 2018), Tim Susnara (8th round, 2017), Jimmie Sherfy (10th round, 2013), Mark Karaviotis (19th round, 2016), Danny Pulfer (19th round, 2011) and Brando Tessar (25th round, 2014) as Arizona selections.
