Colt Lyerla to appear in court on escape charge

Colt Lyerla is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday, a week after police say he escaped Washington County community corrections custody and was later found overdosing on drugs.

Lyerla, a former Oregon Ducks tight end, is accused of second-degree escape. County officials said the 24-year-old went through a first-floor dorm window at the Washington County Community Corrections Center in Hillsboro on Thursday, May 4.

He was found Friday morning by police and paramedics at a Hillsboro home about two miles away after someone called 911 reporting a man was overdosing on drugs there. The man, later determined to be Lyerla, was conscious when emergency responders arrived, and he tried to run away but was caught soon after, police said.
