Cheserek, Rogers Named Athletes of the Week

NEW ORLEANS – Edward Cheserek and Raevyn Rogers were named U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association national athletes of the week, Tuesday after their record-breaking performances at the Millrose Games over the weekend.

Cheserek ran against an elite field in the Paavo Nurmi 3,000, finishing sixth while breaking the Oregon school record and setting the second-best time in collegiate history (7:40.51). The junior’s performance broke Galen Rupp’s 2009 school record (7:44.69) by more than four seconds and is only behind Alistair Cragg’s 2004 mark of 7:38.59 in the collegiate record book.

Rogers finished fourth in the women’s 800 with a time of 2:00.
