Canzano: Oregon Ducks Willie Taggart contingency plan rooted in recruiting

The hope of University of Oregon athletic director Rob Mullens and his important partners is that first-year football coach Willie Taggart remain with the Ducks.

Still, a high-level source at UO said on Friday that contingency plans were being made in the event Florida State lures Taggart away to fill its vacancy. The Ducks were busy formulating "some good ideas" should Taggart leave for Tallahassee, but Oregon would obviously "love to keep the band together."

Taggart, 41, is still growing on the job. He's a special recruiter, and he loves that part of coaching. It's a critical element of college football that the Ducks have never really done consistently well.
