EUGENE -- The UCLA buses warmed up. Staffers placed box lunches filled with Subway sandwiches on a table outside the visiting locker room at Autzen Stadium. Chip Kelly slapped backs with old friends, and swallowed a lopsided loss whole.
History will show that Oregon won the first-ever Chip Kelly Bowl, 42-21.
"We've got to grow up," now-UCLA coach Kelly said. "No one is going to wait for us."
Thing is, Kelly is wrong. Everyone waited for him this week. It's true. His old colleagues waited in the lobby of the team hotel. And Ducks fans waited near the mouth of the stadium tunnel to wave to him as he left the field.
