I think Oregon State coach Kelly Sullivan has been a terrific ambassador for OSU, his program and the sport since he came in to revive the OSU track and field as a women's varsity sport in 2004.
The school announced Sullivan's retirement yesterday.
Sullivan had critics who were frustrated by the slow pace of the Beavers' improvement as measured against Pac-12 competition, and the school's inability to get the Whyte Track & Field Center completed.
OSU's track is excellent, but there are no amenities around it. That kept the Beavers from being able to stage last month's Pac-12 Track & Field Championships, which had been scheduled for OSU but went to Hayward Field instead.
