Just a few days after offering Vernon Adams a contract, the CFL's BC Lions announced on Friday afternoon that they have traded Adams' negotiation rights to the Montreal Alouettes. In exchange, the Lions will receive a first-round pick from Montreal in the 2017 CFL Draft.
Wally Buono, GM and head coach of the Lions, said that the team wasn't going to be able to meet Adams' expectations for a contract. After feeling comfortable with their depth at quarterback, Buono and the Lions decided a draft pick would be more valuable for their franchise. Based on how bad Montreal is expected to be, "valuable" might be an understatement.
