This morning Baylor announced that head coach Art Briles, the most successful coach in school history and the face of a program that is a final four contender in college football, has been fired in the wake of sexual misconduct by his players and a pattern of covering up and minimizing those charges.
Briles had 8 years on a contract that paid him $4.2 million a year according to ESPN. University president Kenneth Starr (of Whitewater investigation fame) is being reassigned to chancellor.
Briles’ players were involved in numerous incidents of sexual assault and dating violence, and his staff conducted cursory internal investigations and chose to protect the football product above all else.
