SAN DIEGO — Sophomore A.J. Balta’s second home run in as many games helped give the No. 14 Oregon baseball team a season-opening sweep of San Diego State, as the Ducks wrapped up the series Sunday with a 4-3 victory at Tony Gwynn Stadium.
How It Happened: Balta, who also homered Saturday, came to the plate with two on and two out in the top of the eighth inning, and pulled a home run to right field. He drove in young UO middle infielders Travis Moniot and Daniel Patzlaff, who combined to go 8-for-20 with seven runs scored in the series, valuable production at the bottom of the order.
