The attorney for Adidas executive Jim Gatto claimed Oregon offered "an astronomical amount of money" in the recruitment of Brian Bowen before he signed with Louisville.
Gatto's attorney made the remark, according to numerous reporters, during her opening statement in his trial, which began in the Southern District of New York on Tuesday.
The Oregon-based Gatto was among 10 men arrested in connection with the FBI's investigation into corruption in college basketball.
Federal prosecutors allege Gatto engineered a $40,000 payment to the father of a former North Carolina State player, conspired to pay another $90,000 to the mother of a former Kansas Jayhawks star and $20,000 to the guardian of a third player in return for agreeing to attend Kansas.
