20 facts you may not know about March Madness and the Final Four

Oregon, Gonzaga, North Carolina and South Carolina are in Arizona for the 2017 Final Four. But before the Ducks meet the Tar Heels and the Bulldogs meet the Gamecocks on Saturday at University of Phoenix Stadium, here are 20 facts you may not know about March Madness.

The field

1. When the Oregon Webfoots (pictured) won the inaugural 1939 NCAA Tournament, only eight teams were in the field. That field has undergone various expansions along the way, including to 16 teams in 1951, to 32 teams in 1975, to 48 in 1980, to 64 teams in 1985 and to the current 68 teams in 2011.
