I was broke.
OK, not broke in the "I don't know where my next meal is coming from" sense, but broke in the "I am unemployed and certainly don't have any extra money to spend on anything frivolous" way. Like a website I had just started.
It was the summer of 2005 and I had recently quit my screenwriting job to try to make a go of the small fantasy sports website I had started the year before, TalentedMrRoto.com. With no real job to speak of, I had to save whatever money I needed to, you know, live.
