We're less than two weeks away from the beginning of the 2015 college football season, and there's still plenty of intrigue to be had surrounding the Oregon football program and the team's current depth chart. With that being said, here's 4 Things We've Learned From Fall Camp Thus Far.
4. The secondary is still in flux
Redshirt sophomore Chris Seisay is a breakout candidate after some impressive isolated outings last season, but the secondary remains one of the biggest question marks for Oregon going forward. Forced to reload with the departure of impact players Ifo Ekpre-Olomu, Erick Dargan, and Troy Hill, the spotlight will be shining bright on the team's secondary come Week 1 against Eastern Washington
3. Johnstone, Brenner head the offensive line
Three All-Pac-12 players - Jake Fisher, Hroniss Grasu and Hamani Stevens - all need to be replaced, which is a tall task and added challenge coupled with the flux at quarterback. Senior tackle Tyler Johnstone is returning from a torn ACL, but his 26 games of college experience will prove integral to the rebuilding of the line. Also keep an eye on sophomore Doug Brenner who stepped in for Grasu while he was out due to injury last season.
2. The DeForest Buckner Show?
Oregon's defensive line was taken to the woodshed during the College Football Playoff championship game as Ohio State continuously targeted and gashed the unit throughout. Things are even sketchier right now with Arik Armstead off to the NFL, but a returning DeForest Buckner (81 tackles in 2014, led team in tackles for a loss) is a nice foundation to have as the line goes forward into fall camp. Look to Alex Balducci and converted tight end TJ Daniel to play pivotal roles during regular season and to be key names this season.
1. Vernon Adams or Jeff Lockie?
Jeff Lockie is the incumbent. Vernon Adams is the shiny, new and more athletic option. Adams entered fall camp late due to a hold-up with his classes at Eastern Washington, so it's possible Lockie gets the nod both based on continuity and the amount of reps he's gotten so far in camp. However, it's only a matter of time before Adams is given a serious look -- especially with the amount of hype surrounding his arrival in Eugene.
Also, don't rule out the possibility of a QB rotation. Adams and Lockie are diametrically different quarterbacks, so it could work in theory.
