The Oregon Ducks didn't just beat the rival Oregon State Beavers on OSU's home turf in Corvallis. They absolutely annihilated the Beavers in a way that the 47-19 final score can't quite encompass.
Factor in that Alabama's defense was shredded for 44 points in the Iron Bowl against Auburn and Florida State looked shaky at best in taking care of the Florida Gators, and there's plenty of evidence to back up those who have the Ducks at #1 in their own personal rankings.
As Brent Sobleski of NBC's College Football Talk points out, "Oregon’s only loss came at the hands of the Arizona Wildcats. The Ducks will have an opportunity to avenge their line defeat in next weekend’s Pac-12 Championship Game and roll into the inaugural College Football Playoff."
That Arizona team is a lot better than their ranking or national status lets on. A convincing revenge win over the Wildcats in the Pac-12 title game should be more than enough to vault Oregon to the top of the CFP rankings.
However, with the human element involved in seeding teams, one never knows exactly where a team stands until the rankings are finally released.
