The Oregon Ducks' 44-10 destruction of the Colorado Buffaloes on Saturday wasn't much of a game to watch. The Ducks did what they do best, routing an inferior opponent on the Autzen Stadium turf.
Regardless, Oregon appears to be just two wins away from a berth in the inaugural College Football Playoff - potentially giving the Pac-12 its first national title banner in a decade.
Here's Blair Kerkhoff of the Kansas City Star with an analysis of how things stand right now for both the Ducks and the Pac-12's championship hopes:
The Ducks would be part of the four-team playoff if it were selected today. But if Oregon got to the Pac-12 title game with one loss and fell that day, it would be difficult to see a league champion with two or more losses selected ahead of major conference champions with none or one loss.
Also in the Pac-12’s favor this year: One of the national semifinals is in the Rose Bowl. When selecting the bracket, the committee will favor the top two seeds geographically. With the Sugar Bowl serving as the other semifinal, a South-based team would head to New Orleans, leaving Pasadena open to a West Coast team.
The task is clear. Beat Oregon State and then beat the eventual Pac-12 South champion, and the Oregon Ducks will have a clear path to national championship glory.
