Oregon Duck fans are rejoicing after hearing the news that star quarterback Marcus Mariota has decided to return to Oregon for another season. The Ducks started the 2013 season with great promise, dominating over the first seven games. They then ran into the Stanford Cardinal who have given them trouble the past few years, and have now lost two of the last four games. The Ducks got blown out on the road by Arizona and barely beat Oregon State at home last weekend.
The Ducks haven't been at all dominant over the past four games, and this may be one of the reason why Mariota has decided to return. There may be some unfinished business that Mariota would like to take care of: winning a BCS Championship. Ever since losing the championship game to Auburn, the Ducks just haven't been able to get back and prove they are the best team in the country.
This year would have been the perfect year for the Ducks to finally break through and win a championship with the recent loss of Alabama. Losing the second game to Arizona ended any hope of making the championship. The disappointment for Duck fans winning a BCS championship has continued this year, but with Marcus Mariota set to return, and all the weapons the team seems to find on a yearly basis, there is still great hope that next year could finally be the year of the Duck. Now, all the Ducks have to do is bring back Chip Kelly. Sorry, I couldn't resist throwing that in there. Mark Helfrich is a great coach and will only improve as he gains more experience.
