Florida State once again found themselves playing from behind in the second half, but this time the hole they dug themselves was just too deep. After a Florida State touchdown brought the Seminoles within five with 8:07 remaining in the third quarter, the Ducks capitalized on FSU turnovers to score 34 unanswered points and blow the game wide open.
Turning Point:
This game hinged on FSU freshman Dalvin Cook's second fumble of the day. After coughing up the ball on FSU's first possession of the second half, Cook was stripped around midfield with his team trailing 32-20 and narrowly clinging to hopes of another late comeback. Two plays later, the Ducks were in the end zone, and the score was 39-20. Florida State's next possession ended with a fumble return for a touchdown, and the rout was on.
Oregon MVP:
It's impossible to pick just one player after such a comprehensive team performance. Marcus Mariota, RB Thomas Tyner and WR Darren Carrington were all excellent for the offense, with Tony Washington, Derrick Malone and Reggie Daniels all coming up with huge fumble recoveries for the Ducks.
Stat of the Day:
Florida State's four lost fumbles and one interception gave them five turnovers on the day...a season-high. All four of those lost fumbles came in the second half.
What's Next?
Oregon's spot in the National Championship game is sealed, and the Seminoles will head home with their 29-game winning streak finally over.
