The Civil War wasn't much of a "war" to begin with, as the #2 Oregon Ducks (11-1) put a hurting on the Oregon State Beavers (5-7) in the first half en route to a 30-3 halftime lead on OSU's home turf in Corvallis.
The Beavers would make it a little closer at the end, but Oregon is one step closer to the College Football Playoff after a 47-19 win.
Turning Point:
The game's first ten drives were what turned this game into a laugher. Oregon would score on its first five drives, putting up 344 yards of offense and 30 points before the first half was even over. In contrast, Oregon State's first five drives yielded just 90 yards of total offense, three punts, and two turnovers on downs.
That's the time that the lights went out in Corvallis.
Key Stat: 65 plays for Oregon, 75 for Oregon State
Oregon ran 10 fewer plays, but gained 220 more yards of total offense over the course of the game. That's the definition of an efficient offense picking apart an opposing defense with minimal contact (and chances for injury) taken.
Oregon MVP:
Starting quarterback and Heisman hopeful Marcus Mariota dominated the first half, and that was more than enough on this night to bring the W home to Eugene. Mariota finished 19-of-25 for 367 yards, with X touchdowns against...surprise, no interceptions.
Oregon State MVP:
RB Storm Woods was the entire Beavers offense for the majority of the game, rushing 22 times for 128 yards and a touchdown. The rest of his teammates, however, couldn't bring enough oomph to capture the upset and a bowl bid.
What’s Next?
Oregon will look for revenge next Friday in the Pac-12 title game against the only team that has beaten them this year - the Arizona Wildcats.
Oregon State will head home for the holidays after finishing the season at 5-7.
