Oregon was hitting on all cylinders from the start, as they rode their surprisingly stingy defense to a 23-0 halftime lead. The Ducks' offensive offense took over from there, as they cruised to the easy victory.
Turning Point:
The Ducks had moved the ball in the first quarter but failed to capitalize on multiple occasions, but put up 17 points in the second to break the game open.
Key Stat:
Despite the slow first quarter, Oregon racked up 382 first half yards while holding Arizona to just 25. They totally dominated the Wildcats, showing how they were able to turn this game into a blowout so quickly.
Oregon MVP:
Quarterback Marcus Mariota showed why he's considered the favorite to win the Heisman trophy, passing for 313 yards and two touchdowns while rushing for 33 yards and three more scores. He also extended his streak of 39 straight games with a passing touchdown, which is every game he's played in during his collegiate career.
Freshman running back Royce Freeman also had a big game with 114 rushing yards on 21 carries.
Arizona MVP:
Wide receiver Cayleb Jones provided the only big play for the Wildcats in this game with a 69-yard touchdown catch. He finished the game with two receptions for 71 yards and that touchdown.
What’s Next?
Both teams now wait and see where they'll be playing this bowl season.
Oregon will finish in the top four, solidifying themselves in the College Football Playoff and will see if they overtake Alabama as the top seed in the selection committee's rankings. Either way, they'll be playing in the Rose Bowl on New Year's Day.
Arizona hopes to stay in contention for one of the "New Year's Six" bowls, and is likely headed for the Fiesta Bowl.
