The No. 8 seeded St. Joseph's Hawks gave the No. 1 seeded Oregon Ducks a scare, but the Ducks came out on top 69-64. The Ducks head to the Sweet 16 with their win.
St. Joe's was down five at the half, but took a seven-point lead with less than six minutes to play. Oregon took the lead back with under two minutes to play and held on thanks to a St. Joe's turnover and key Oregon free throws. The Ducks ended the game on an 18-6 run.
It was a four-pronged attack for St. Joe's. DeAndre' Bembry had 16 points, 12 rebounds, three assists and two steals. Aaron Brown had 10 points, but fouled out with just over four minutes to play. Shavar Newkirk added 10 points and five rebounds. Freshman Lamarr Kimble, who averaged less than 6 points per game this year, had 11.
The Ducks were carried by Dillion Brooks and Elgin Cook. Brooks had 25 points, two rebounds and two blocks, while Cook had 18 points, four boards and four assists. Oregon got a late boost from freshman Tyler Dorsey, who had 14 points. Those three were a combined 17 of 37 from the field. The rest of the team was 4 of 16.
Duke awaits the Ducks. The Blue Devils avoided an upset bid from Yale earlier Sunday.
