Ye Shiwen, who broke a world record and swept the 2012 Olympic individual medleys at age 16, is in danger of not making China’s team for Rio after a seventh-place 400m IM finish at the Chinese Championships on Sunday.
Ye has struggled since she swam eye-popping times at the London Games. She placed eighth and 15th in the individual medleys at the World Championships in August.
At the Chinese Nationals, which serve as an Olympic trials according to swimming media, she clocked 4:44.17 to lead all times in the preliminary heats but fell to 4:50.
