The World Health Organization and the Pan American Health Organization provided an update “on ways to further mitigate the risk of athletes and visitors contracting Zika virus during the Games” on Thursday.
Travelers are encouraged to use insect repellents and wear light-colored clothing that covers as much of the body as possible, choose air-conditioned accommodation, avoid visiting impoverished and overcrowded areas with no piped water and poor sanitation and practice safer sex or abstain from sex during their stay and four weeks after their return.
“Pregnant women continue to be advised not to travel to areas with ongoing Zika virus transmission.
