World champion Morgan Hurd shines again at American Cup

HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. — Morgan Hurd stood a few feet from the men’s high bar as American Yul Moldauer twisted and swung his way to the American Cup championship. In her first big event since her world championships victory in October 2017, Hurd won and then focused on being a good teammate.

Being the world champion did help.

“I definitely took a lot away from worlds,” Hurd said after the competition. “I’m a lot calmer when I compete. I focus on staying in the moment."

On bars, Hurd landed full-twisting double back dismount. She took a step forward when landing her otherwise-perfect beam routine and had a small hop on her vault.
