The event making its debut for snowboarding featured a progressive contest by the women’s riders, who in near perfect weather on Monday were able to showcase their sport’s progression.
A week ago, these same riders competed in extremely windy conditions that many of them said should have caused the slopestyle competition to be postponed. Instead, the International Ski Federation opted to run the event – while postponing Alpine events – and riders struggled to land runs let alone showcase the high level of riding in snowboarding.
“You could see in almost all the girls how happy they were to compete today,” said Austrian Anna Gasser, the top qualifier and a heavy favorite to win gold here.
