MONT VENTOUX, France (AP) — The wind is blowing at 125 kph (nearly 80 mph) on Mont Ventoux as the peloton sets out for the weather-shortened Stage 12 of the Tour de France, which coincides with Bastille Day.
The wind, combined with a temperature just above the freezing level on top of the "Giant of Provence," forced organizers to move the finish line of Thursday's stage six kilometers (3.7 miles) down the road to the Chalet Reynard.
It's now a 178-kilometer (111-mile) leg beginning in Montpellier.
Lotto-Soudal teammates Andre Greipel and Thomas De Gendt are part of a 13-man breakaway early in the stage with a lead of nearly 10 minutes on the pack.
