Although economic woes and the mosquito-borne Zika virus are deterring many from attending this summer’s Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, it’s really too bad, as the vibrant flavors of the city’s restaurants should not be missed. On a trip to Rio a few months ago, I consulted locals (Cariocas) for recommendations that seemed to be in touch with the country’s many intriguing ingredients and culinary traditions. Here are the places, high end and modest, traditional and cutting edge, that I would be happy to revisit.
