Tournament play in the men’s and women’s beach volleyball competitions begins Friday, with the American tandem of Kerri Walsh Jennings and April Ross among the teams looking to move one step closer to the medal round. Jennings and Ross, who won all three of their group matches, face Italy’s Marta Menegatti and Laura Giombini in the final match of the day.
Menegatti and Giombini finished third in Group D on four points, as they beat the pair from Egypt in straight sets but lost in three sets in their matches against the top two teams in the group.
