The stakeholders in the fight against doping in sport certainly can’t agree on whether the system is broken or not. But, following a scandal of state-sponsored doping in Russian sport that overshadowed the Rio Olympics, all agree on one thing — change is needed.
The International Olympic Committee will host a summit on the issue on Saturday, the latest in a line of discussions seeking to revamp and restore faith in the anti-doping effort.
Any recommendations as a result of the summit come at a fraught time politically as statements from IOC members —most notably Sergey Bubka and Gerardo Werthein — have been critical of the World Anti-Doping Agency.
