The U.S. Olympic Committee and USA Track & Field on Friday filed motions to dismiss a federal antitrust lawsuit brought by a company co-owned by Olympic runner Nick Symmonds.
Run Gum, which Symmonds owns with coach Sam Lapray, sued in the U.S. District Court for the District of Oregon last month, alleging rules regarding the type of sponsorships athletes can display on their uniforms that the U.S. Olympic trials violate antitrust laws.
In their filings Friday, the USOC and USATF argued that the court should dismiss Run Gum’s case because the USOC has implied immunity under the Ted Stevens Olympic and Amateur Sports Act.
