Reigning 100 meter world champion Noah Lyles has a new challenger to his goal of winning four gold medals at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Great Britain's Louie Hinchliffe outran Lyles in Saturday's 100 meter heat with a qualifying time of 9.98 seconds, beating the American sprinter's time of 10.04 seconds.
Both men qualified for the quarterfinals.
Lyles said in his post-race interview on NBC that he had underestimated the competition in his 100 meter Olympic debut.
"I felt like my first 10 meters was pretty good," Lyles said, per NBCOlympics.
