NEW YORK — Usain Bolt slowly prevailed in his first race in the U.S. in five years, winning a 200m in 20.29 seconds on Saturday.
Bolt’s time was far short of Justin Gatlin‘s world-leading 19.68 seconds from May.
Gatlin was not racing Saturday. Bolt won by .03 over Zharnel Hughes.
“I’m not overly happy with it,” Bolt told Lewis Johnson. “I don’t know exactly what’s going on.”
Americans are preparing for the U.S. Championships in Eugene, Ore., in two weeks, where they will be looking to finish in the top three of their events to make the World Championships team.
