As soon as Shelby Houlihan crossed the finish line Sunday, the Iowa native looked into the Drake Stadium stands.
Houlihan saw the large gathering of about 20 family members going nuts.
There was plenty to celebrate this weekend for the Sioux City product who captured her second victory in as many days at the U.S. Track and Field Championships with a win in the women’s 5,000-meter race on Sunday.
“It’s been a lot of fun — mostly seeing my family and having the hometown crowd around,” Houlihan said. “It’s really cool.”
Houlihan, a fan-favorite for the event, lived up to the hopes of the crowd, winning the 1,500 on Saturday and the 5,000 on Sunday.
