The U.S. streak of gold medals in the women’s 4×400 relay reached six Saturday night, with the American quartet winning in dominant fashion.
Courtney Okolo, Natasha Hastings, Phyllis Francis and Allyson Felix combined to finish the race in 3:19.06, beating silver medalists Jamaica by more than a full second. On the anchor leg Jamaica’s Novlene Williams-Mills attempted to close the gap on Felix but she was unable to do so, with the now six-time Olympic gold medalist not only holding her off but pulling away over the final 150 meters.
Taking bronze was Great Britain, with their anchor Christine Ohuruogu becoming a medalist in three consecutive Olympic games.
