U.S. swimmer Prenot takes silver in men’s 200 breast

Making his Olympic debut this summer, American swimmer Josh Prenot entered Wednesday’s 200 meter breaststroke final on the verge of winning his first Olympic medal. Mission accomplished in that regard, as Prenot took the silver with Kazakhstan’s Dmitriy Balandin winning the gold medal.

Balandin finished the race in 2:07.46, and in doing so he won his nation’s first Olympic swimming medal of any kind. Prenot finished in 2:07.53, coming back from being outside of the medal spots at the final turn and nearly winning the gold medal. The last medal in this event for the United States prior to Wednesday was won in 2004, when Brendan Hansen took bronze.
