A Team USA contingent including Olympic swimming champions Katie Ledecky and Tyler Clary toured a NORAD alternate command center at the Cheyenne Mountain Air Force Station in Colorado Springs, Colo., recently.
“Once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” Ledecky said on NBC’s KUSA affiliate.
Ledecky is based in the D.C. area and Clary in Charlotte, but many U.S. swimmers spend weeks in Colorado for high-altitude training every year.
The trip to Cheyenne Mountain was a welcome break from the hard practices at a U.S. Olympic training center in Colorado Springs.
“I got to play basketball 2,000 feet under a mountain,” Clary said.
