GLASGOW, Scotland — Despite missing three of its top gymnasts and moving Chris Brooks from alternate to all-arounder this week, the U.S. men advanced to the finals in the gymnastics world championships and qualified their spot in the Rio Olympics.
The Americans finished in fifth with 352.332 points, behind Japan, China, Great Britain and Russia. They’ll compete in the final here at The SSE Hydro on Wednesday.
Danell Leyva also qualified for Thursday’s all-around competition. Brooks, who last made a worlds team in 2010, was an alternate until this week, when he was tapped to replace Sam Mikulak.
