Jurgen Klinsmann is enough of an optimist to believe that somewhere, far down the road, something good might come of what happened to the United States men’s soccer program on Tuesday.
Yet it was hard to see much to smile about through the fog of uncertainty that continued to envelop Klinsmann’s squad, the latest disappointment coming with a 1-0 defeat to Costa Rica at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, N.J.
Following on from a heartbreaking 3-2 loss to Mexico three days earlier, this was another dismal result for Klinsmann, albeit in a “friendly” game, and did nothing to raise optimism ahead of the 2018 World Cup qualifying campaign, which starts on November 13.
