Five American boxers will compete in Tuesday’s Pan American Games competition at the Oshawa Sports Centre in Toronto.
Two tough bouts will kick off the day for Team USA. Flyweight Antonio Vargas, of Kissimmee, Fla., will face 2016 Olympian Jeyvier Cintron Ocasio of Puerto Rico, while light welterweight Luis Feliciano, of Milwaukee, takes on Cuba’s Yasnier Toledo.
In the evening session, lightweight Carlos Balderas, of Santa Maria, Calif., competes for the first time at the Pan American Games against Mexico’s Lindolfo Delgado.
Team USA’s two female athletes will compete in the semifinals late Tuesday. Marlen Esparza, of Houston, a 2012 Olympic bronze medalist at flyweight, will battle Puerto Rico’s Monica Gonzalez Rivera and Olympic middleweight champion Claressa Shields, of Flint, Mich.
