Nico Porteous of New Zealand secured the gold medal in the first run when he scored a 93. He is competing along with his brother, Miguel, who came in 11th. In 2018, Nico became New Zealand’s first freestyle skier and the country’s first man to medal at a Winter Olympics when he won the bronze.
David Wise, a two-time Olympic gold medalist who has also won six World Cups and three X Games, took silver with a score of 90.75 on his first run. Wise started competing in ski racing, but his parents allowed him to try freestyle skiing because he kept breaking expensive skis on the terrain park during racing practice.
