The Wimbledon semifinalist Tomas Berdych and the 16th-ranked Karolina Pliskova withdrew from the Rio de Janeiro Olympics on Saturday, citing concerns about the Zika virus.
In a statement posted on Twitter, the eighth-ranked Berdych said he had made the decision not to play for the Czech Republic after “a long and painstaking discussion” with his family. He said limiting health risks for his loved ones was his “utmost priority.”
