    • Five golds. Caeleb Dressel finished his Olympics with five gold medals, in the 100-meter freestyle, 100-meter butterfly, 50-meter freestyle, and two team relays.
    • Most decorated Olympian. Emma McKeon, a swimmer from Australia, has won seven medals, tying her for the record by any female Olympian, set in 1952 at the Helsinki Games by the gymnast Maria Gorokhovskaya of the Soviet Union.
    • Katie Ledecky’s changing career. Entering the Tokyo Games, Katie Ledecky had never lost an individual race at the Olympics, but a new generation of swimmers is catching up with her, and even overtaking her, especially in the shorter races.
