Tallent finally receives 2012 Olympic gold, four years late

Nearly four years late and half a world away from London, Jared Tallent finally received his chance to move up another rung on the Olympic medal podium.

Tallent, initially awarded the silver medal in the 50-kilometer walk at the 2012 London Games, was handed the gold by Australian Olympic Committee president John Coates in a ceremony in front of the Old Treasury Building in Melbourne on Friday.

He was elevated to first after Sergei Kirdyapkin of Russia, who captured the gold in London, was stripped of his medal for doping.

Kirdyapkin received a three-year ban by the Russian anti-doping agency, but it initially didn't cover his 2012 Olympics result.
